Melody From the Past
The detonation shook the walls It was coming down The empty halls filled with flame And everything was burning to the ground I called your name, I tried to warn But you didn’t hear You were torn Between the hero and your fears
And I wish that I could be The One To finally show the way And I wish that I could be The One Who knew just what to say But I know that there is nothing I could ever say or do Because you’re The One The doctor chose you to be his son…
If I was standing where you are I think I would have done what father wants But now I know what I’d become
He said to me that I would be That I would be the Light when they couldn’t see That what they need is a machine That would give them hope That could keep them free That when they’d fall still he would stand A savior built by human hands
It seems so strange, so very odd A hero’s father could be so very flawed…
An apology so sorry for the man he was For the father he couldn’t be That I would not be what I was built to be If I had a heart it would have broken to see his face To see my family And The One who took my place
There is a song I hear A melody from the past When I woke for the first time When I slept for the last You are The One The hero who will stand Do not blame father He is only a man
What was filled with rage finally understands Man is not without mistake Unlike that which he builds from his hands Though my fate is broken my path I cannot see Though you are the chosen I’ll make my own history…
There is a song I hear A melody from the past When I woke for the first time When I slept for the last You are The One The hero who will stand Do not blame father He is only a man

The emotions were high during this one... And for good reason. I saw Melody from the Past as that song that just brought every fan of The Megas together for one big feels trip, and it was amazing getting to see all of these incredibly different people with one common interest come together to enjoy such a masterpiece. While listening to it, I just thought back through when I found out about The Megas all the way up to now. It made me realize how much these guys mean to me. I always knew it, but last night was when it was fully realized. And I realized how much I love all of you guys too. It's also a great reflective piece for the guys; go and listen to the original recording of I Want to Be the One, and then listen to Melody from the Past. You wouldn't even recognize the fact that it was the same band. They've come such a long way, and I'm so proud of them as musicians...
In short: The Megas are awesome, you guys are awesome, and the fact that today's jerkoff "musicians" are making more than The Megas probably ever will disgusts me.

How come not all the lyrics are here? These lyrics are only the first half of the song. Anyway, I've listened to it repeatedly, and I believe this is the second half of the song.

What was filled with rage, finally understands. Man is not without mistake, unlike that which he builds from his hands. Though my fate is broken, my path I cannot see. Though you are the chosen, I’ll make my own history.

Oh, you misunderstand me. My question was who, in the storyline is singing the song and why. I think it is Protoman (or what is left of him), singing before he finally dies.

Nah I don't think he dies, I think he realizes that he can't walk a program, so he goes his separate way. But yeah I think he sings it.

Because all we had last night before the full album was provided to us was what was written in the Making the Megas Art lyric book that josh was doing, and this was all we got from those. Now that we actually can replay the files (we couldn't last night) we can now get this fully in! Thanks!

He does the Protoman thing and just disappears, only to reappear if he's needed. He's learned from Mega, and taught him enough to leave the fate of the world (and Wily) to him. Proto's hero complex has been lifted, and he's free to wander around freely and uh.. whistle, I guess?

Really powerful song. I think even if I'd never heard of Mega Man this song would make me feel something.

Fantastic song. Proto's evolution from a rage-filled machine to understanding that he's been freed from what he saw as strict programming to find his own place in the world...he earned his "Man" monicker here. Accepting that Mega Man chose his fate rather than told to do so (from not Kale-ing Wily which Light wanted/told him to do back in Blue). Amazing conclusion to History Repeating!

There's A LOT I love about this song but the thing that jumps out at me the most is the contrast between the more sombre, subdued vocals and the really intense music that goes with it. While I'm Not the Breakman had (justifiably so) intense vocals and music, while Continue had subdued music and vocals, we have a great juxtaposition here. It works so well.
