This is the deepest song of them all. It's way to complex to even try to comprehend in a post.
I love you, Divey.

I'm pretty sure that the only time I haven't been listening to this album is when I've been asleep. And even then, my dreams have been Megaman related. But, I had kind of a realization while listening to Continue and why I find the lyrics particularly powerful. It's standard Hero storytelling, and that's why it works so well. Forgive me if I'm looking way too deep into it.
"If it was up to you and you You know that you would lose If it was up to you I know You'd always choose to continue"
I'm listening to it and comprehending it as "If it was up to you and you know that you would lose, you'd always choose to continue"
Sounds a lot like one of my favorite lines from Lord of the Rings (relevant line in bold):
"It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something." "What are we holding onto, Sam?" "That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo... and it's worth fighting for".
Now, on a side note if those lines are read that way, which is now how I'm thinking they're intended to be read, I'm not really thinking it could be Wily singing to Mega.
The line
"The fear was only momentary But you're always never temporary you know This was never meant to end"
almost completely contradicts Wily's thoughts on the war when he sings these lines during Gamma Unchained:
"This war has gone on much longer, than, any of us, would have guessed"
I don't know if anyone else was really considering it being Wily singing the song, but I definitely don't believe it's him based on this.
Also,
Is Proto only singing the one line from History repeating pt 2? I thought he was singing the whole of Pt 2.

I just noticed something. In "(I want to be the one) to watch you die", Light says: Quote: You are the one who wrote the end While, in "Look what have you done", Wily says: Quote: I can see the head lines now: 'Megaman has ended the evil domination of Dr.Wily(...) Wily actually DID write himself into a corner there =P

Thanks, Greg! Guess that puts to rest what parts of History Repeating are sung by Proto

That would make "I think I've played this song before" make an insane amount of sense. Way far back, but the choruses actually use (essentially) the same chord progression in the same key. You can transition back and forth between the two songs freely because of this, a la VGL performance. Also, lyrics page says: g:\GAMMA>\sys/activation g:\>[peacekeeping]/calculation… g:\>…[solution\extermination] For the breakdown.

Not that I disagree with you, but I find ctrl+f+(lyric) is the king of easy navigation.
